Drag King Louis Cyfer will be hosting a stage for queer performance within this event, and we have several open mic slots available for new acts, or new work you want to test out in front of a live audience. Drag, comedy, clowning, queerlesque, song, anything goes, as long as it will entertain. In return for you performing one 3 – 5 minute act we’ll provide refreshments and up to £20 reimburse travel expenses.

On December 1st 2018, we brought our drag king cabaret, The Kingdom Come back to Walkley Community Centre, Sheffield. The night was a sell out, with audience members rocking some amazing costumes and outfits. Its never too early for tinsel right?
Host Don One was charm personified, his Brummie accent and smooth songs winning everyone round. Stellar performances came from Dick Slick, Loui Von Dini, Mo Torboat and Chiyo, who were warmly enveloped in the love from our audience.

As usual the cake sold faster than you can say hotcakes, and the Andro & Eve volunteers did a brilliant job of helping the night run smoothly. We want to say a huge thanks to them for giving their time to help at this night and the others we’ve produced in 2018.

A massive thank you to Walkley Community Centre for lending us their venue again, to all the local businesses who donated towards our raffle, and our audience for contributing to our Pay it Forward Ticket fund. This fund allows us to provide cheaper and free tickets to those who need them. We raised £245 from this event through raffle and online contributions alone! Thank you! We won an Award!! Last month at Cinema For All’s 2018 Film Society of the Year Awards we won in the BEST SINGLE EVENT category for our screening themed around Sekiya Dorsett’s film THE REVIVAL: WOMEN AND THE WORD. You can read more about what happened at that event in January 2018 on our blog here.

This week we hosted a QUEER HUB, in order to get feedback and ideas for an exciting programme of queer arts events that we’re planning. It was a really creative and useful session, and we’re really grateful to those that gave their time to contribute.
We also want to hear from people who have not yet attended one of our events. AND we’d love to hear from an even wider range of our audience. We’ve created a short online survey, to help us shape a programme of queer arts events, and we’d love to hear from you!

We’re excited to bring news of the Queer Hub. On Wednesday 18th July 5.30 – 7pm at Theatre Deli Sheffield. What’s a Queer Hub you may ask? Well, this session is aimed at people who have been to one or more Andro & Eve events. The Queer Hub is a place for the Andro & Eve audience and volunteers to feedback on their experiences and help shape an exciting programme of queer arts events that Andro & Eve are currently planning! (Subject to funding). Join us for a facilitated discussion with food and friendly vibes exploring –
– What films/ artists / performers do you want to see programmed in future?
– How can we make Andro & Eve events even more accessible?
– Are there other queer arts projects you’d like to see / make happen in Sheffield?

We’re excited to announce that we have drag king open mic slots available!!
We’re planning our next A REYT QUEER DO, and there are a few drag king open mic slots available. These are for brand new drag kings or newbie kings who want more performance experience. It is not a paid opportunity though we can help out with some travel expenses and we always provide food and drink for our performers. You’ll also get a set of photos of your performance taken by our professional photographer and free entry and probably* free cake at our big queer party. Priority for slots will go to Kings based outside of London but all applications welcome! To apply, you need to be available on Saturday 12 May and be able to perform one 3 – 5 minute drag act. This week saw us produce our first in a new party series, called A Reyt Queer Do. With music, food, dancing and drag kings, we brought together a diverse group of people for a very fun night full of queer festive cheer.
Hosted by king Sammy Silver, (see photo above) the night was all about giving new drag kings a chance to try out their acts in front of an audience. And what an audience it was! So much cheering, clapping and general enthusiasm, us Northerners really gave a fine welcome to the talent.

Making their debut were Sheffield – based Tofu Weiner and Crispin Creame, supported by fellow Yorkshire king, Jack Strap. Zayn Phallic, fresh from the London scene, whipped the crowd into a frenzy, while Sammy Silver charmed the socks off everyone with his warm hosting style.

The vegan and veggie tapas went down a treat, and The Old Workshop looked lush, with added handmade festive decor, from yours truly. Our audience had really made an effort, with many people in drag, some so well put together, they could have been mistaken for one of the performers! After the cabaret we danced the night away, with many not wanting to leave. It was brilliant.

We just want to say a huge thank you to all the drag kings for their energy, and in particular, well done to the new kings, who were so brave to perform to a packed venue. HUGE thanks to our new volunteers; it was great to have more support in running the event. And finally, a massive thank you to our audience, for your enthusiasm and generosity. Through our Christmas raffle and donations through Tickets for Good, you helped us raise £109 towards our accessible fund. This is wonderful and will help us fulfil our aim of bringing in discounted ticket prices for those on low incomes for our events in 2018.
We’re thrilled to be ending 2017 on SUCH a high. YAAAASSSS! We can’t wait for our next event – The Revival: Women and The Word on 27 January. See you there!

On June 3rd we returned to Walkley Community Centre to produce the second edition of our Drag King night, The Kingdom Come. This time the theme was ‘Holiday Camp’ and our audience and drag performers sure brought the tropical, gender bending vibes!

The cabaret – style evening was hosted by Adam All and Apple Derrieres, scene superstars and founders of Boi Box London, and featured drag kings Romeo De La Cruz, Luke Warm, Oliver Assets and Oedipussi. They all brought their A Game and had us howling with laughter and delight in one heck of a fun filled evening!

We want to say a huge thank you to our audiences for supporting our event, and making SUCH stellar efforts with their own fancy dress.. And thanks to those who donated towards our collection for the End Period Poverty project. On Saturday 22nd April we hosted our first drag king workshop at One Space Sheffield. Adam All and Apple Derrieres travelled from London to deliver this special event, and help those attending bring forth their male alter ego’s through discussion, movement and makeup tutorials.
To be honest we really didn’t know what to expect, this being our first workshop event, and the fact that most of the participants had not been to any of our past events! But it was so wonderful to be in a room with women and non binary people really keen to learn about the art of drag, and up for performing in front of others!
The day started with introductions and why people had attended. We weren’t surprised that many had been introduced to drag through RuPaul, but were surprised to learn how many had never seen a drag king perform, either live or online. This made us realise how important putting on an event like THE KINGDOM COME, outside of London is. Adam and Apple started with a short history of drag kings, moved onto character anchors for a drag king, and then how to embody those characters through movement and acting exercises.
After a VERY delicious lunch by Fanfare, a plant – based pop up at Union Street, it was onto make – up and packing and strapping! Adam very generosuly shared the tips that helped transform their face and body into a masculine physique and then it was time to dance to some chosen tunes before the ‘draguation’ ceremony!

Feedback we received from our participants has been overwhelmingly positive, and some of it made us cry (in a good way). Here’s a sample –
‘A great first-time introduction to genderplay in general, and specific character, makeup, and costume tricks. Very knowledgeable hosts’.
‘Dressing up and exploring gender is fun and today made me feel a little less worried’.
‘It was so fun and I loved how friendly and welcoming the space was, it felt totally okay to go over the top’.

This event really reaffirmed why we make Andro and Eve events happen and cemented our resolve to make our events more accessible to everyone. On that note, we want to run a similar event, but we will be seeking funding in order to make pricing more accessible. We believe strongly that artists (especially women / queer people) should be paid for their time, and we want to build on the success of this day to create a sustainable model and an even better event. Lots of our participants said they wanted more opportunities to try out their newly developed characters…. So watch this space!

Thanks also to One Space and Fanfare so their collaboration. It really helped us make it a special day.
